YAWN!

Emile Mervin's recent letter in Kaieteur News could hit the nail harder on the head when he explored government's plans to sell its shares in the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company under the caption 'Will those awarded government GTT shares become private partners in the ICT project?'

By now we all know about the government's or rather Jagdeo's plans to sell the 20% shares its has in one of the most financially sound company in this country. If you don't know, his crony and friend Winston Brassington has advertised for proposals or requests.  

But why would this government want to rid itself of these shares ? Should anyone take their answer of investing in the ICT sector at face value? 

Everyone should realize by now the government is moving into competitive sectors not for the need of it but for the want. Like Mervin pointed out, they have moved into the Hotel business by funding Marriot and we know about Cacique now why would be government want to be a competitor in the telecommunications or ICT sector ? Why not use the same valuable 20% shares in GT&T ?

 

Some sinister plot has being drafted but we may not learn of the beneficiaries in years to come.

  Its a sad day though, even the workers of the company would not be given a chance to bid for the shares which will be sold in blocs and coupled with that the Union that represents the workers can't even afford a pin - much less to bid for these shares.

The Marriott's name is getting buried!

What's all the song and dance about the need for a Marriot Brand Hotel here - If Dr. Champion says we need a Marraiot Brand Hotel here, we better do ! 

Why are the bickering by those existing hotel owners? This hotel is for the booming tourism, yes that tourism that comes every August when Guyanese return home to meet their relatives and cant up with the garbage, insects, black outs and stink water.  

They will whip out their credit cards and head to the Marriott! 

Thanks to Dr. Champion and another Public Private Partnership - our tax payers money have been invested in another project that is expected to full the coconut and sweet vendor pockets. 

We hear that some rooms already have bookings with names of GT's elites including Ministers, their families and don't forget the girlfriends.  

There will also be special arrangements for Kwame. 

Word out is that even Ralph Gonsalves will have a special room.   

As Dr. Champion's buddy, of course, Ralph will have a special suite at the hotel his friend is building.   

Champagne and goose berries on Ice for all !   

Atlantic Hotel Inc

Of recent, we have seen and heard of Jagdeo's vows to complete the so-called Marriott's Hotel. 

What many people do not realize is that the public funds will be used to do this.   

What we also need to now know and realize, is that the hotel is being built by the Atlantic Hotels Inc. A local group. Note that it reads "Atlantic"... one would immediately assume that it has everything to do with Bobby Ramroop of Queen's Atlantic.    

However, Chris Ram has published in his article an amazing fact that can be corroborated. Guess who are the owners of Atlantic Hotel Inc?    

The company is registered to Winston Brassington, Marcia Nadir-Sharma and the Lawyer working at NICIL. 

This is a huge scam!!! 

How can officers of the Government form a private company that will have Government funds funneled to it? 

More will be exposed as time go by. Meanwhile, as "time goes by" moneys will be suctioned into this project by Brassington and company. 

Wanna take a guess as to who is the Chairman of NICILs board? Ashni Singh! And who does Ashni report to? Of course, kinpin, Bharrat!

This one will pale in comparison to synergyless pit.

THE ROTTING CORPSE OF THE MARRIOT AWAITS BURIAL

In January 2009 the President assured Guyanese of an alive and well Marriot Hotel, aback of Kingston.

With the government already spending millions of dollars on relocating and revamping 42 sewage pipes it was a done deal ! or so u would think.

Why has President Jagdeo held on to a deal that is dead with no real hope of revival? One can only think that he believes that there was such a DEAL.

WHY ? Why? EXACTLY WHY HASN’T THE MARRIOT HOTEL BUILT?? We refuse to believe that the Marriot Deal was used to moved squatters off the seawall, we refused to believe that the Marriot could have replaced the Pegasus and we refuse to believe that the President dreamt that he has a deal with the company, Marriot Incorporated.

This ‘Marriot Hotel deal’ was expected to be closed since mid 2008 but then the President said that “That was the time when the turmoil in the capital markets escalated with the collapse of some financial institutions and you had the catastrophic drop in the stock exchange and the credit crunch deepened and therefore, traditional sources of capital that were identified were no longer there. So the financial closures simply could not have happened,”

In May 2009 government advertised for expressions of interest in a joint venture for the a location aback of the Kingston Seawall. The Privatisation Unit said the government was seeking interested investors for the project, a total of 6.9 acres of land situated in the north-western part of Kingston bordered by the Atlantic and the Demerara River. The government was look for an investment of US$20M.

Oh well and in 2010? We still await this government rated 5 Star hotel or RIP Marriot.
